The Problem

CarLotz came to us wanting to improve the end to end customer experience of obtaining a price estimate on a vehicle when looking to sell/trade-in. The client was using a 3rd party service to obtain the quote for the customer, which created a lot of friction and context switching between the business and user.

 

Users expected buying/selling a car to take little effort, but the current experience required difficult digital interactions and sometimes in-person interactions. Along with that the client felt their brand was not effectively speaking to who they were as a company. They wanted to find a way to help the brand feel more unified & updated to align more with expectations for company look and feel.

The Soultion

  1. The creation of the Vehicle Value Estimator, otherwise known as VVE​

  2. A revamp and improving CarLotz design system to follow principles of The Atomic Design System

  3. Creation of component library with Storybook for ease of development

  4. Re-design of a major landing page on CarLotz.com

Vehicle Value Estimator

We designed an online feature to empower car owners to gain knowledge of their vehicle's worth. This widget, seamlessly integrated into the CarLotz website, offered users a hassle-free way to determine the sell, trade-in, or consignment value of their cars. By inputting essential details about their vehicles, such as make, model, mileage, and condition, users receive an accurate and instant estimate, eliminating the guesswork from the equation. This allowed CarLotz to streamline the car-selling experience, putting the power of pricing a vehicle right at the user's fingertips.

Collaborating closely with CarLotz, we developed Pulp, a design system rooted in atomic design principles.

 

By breaking down interfaces into modular components, Pulp ensures visual consistency and efficiency across CarLotz's digital platforms. This approach streamlined development, enabled rapid prototyping, and elevated both the aesthetics and functionality of their user interface.

We gave CarLotz's sell landing page a sleek makeover, blending it seamlessly with the Pulp design system. With responsive breakpoints, the page now adapts effortlessly to various devices, offering users a consistently polished experience. This redesign not only enhances the visual appeal but also ensures accessibility, making it easier for users to navigate and engage effectively.
